Sebastian Kornum grabs the Windsurf-Foil European Title
The 2018 Windsurf-Foil European Championships have concluded in Sopot, Poland with 13 races completed in the four day event.
Sebastian Kornum from Denmark won the event, ahead of Poland’s Maciej Rutkowski and Przemysław Miarczyński, who were battling it out for the second spot until the very last race.
“I had quite a lot of competitions this season, the last one being the German championships were we had a lot of races, so I felt really steady in my tactics coming in for this event and felt pretty safe. I knew my speed was also good, so the key to success was not to make too many mistakes. Safe decisions and fight till the end” – said the European Champion.
Adding – “I’ve been using the same board and the same foil for the whole season, but just two days before the event we made a new prototype sail and I was able to race it here. Equipment is still work in progress however and new foil specific sails and a new board will be ready for next year.”
Maja Dziarnowska was the top women in the fleet – “There were three girls here, all good technically, but they all came on RS Convertible gear, which turned out to be a disadvantage. Choosing the Formula Foil was a good decision from my side. Last week I competed in the RS:X now I’m here on the foil. Here if there is not enough wind we have to wait and I like racing when there is wind. Shorter races are more fun and the courses are also more attractive, a bit scary sometimes, but all in all I definitely prefer the Foil to RS:X.”
